2005 was a year of clear growth in the Nordic IT Services market and we also saw a shift in demand pattern from more cost oriented approaches, like outsourcing, to more forward looking activities like planning for new systems and upgrading earlier installed ERP systems. “The market for Project
Services were spurred by investments in ERP upgrades and SOA enabling” said Karsten Fogh Ho-Lanng, Nordic Research Director at IDC. “This led to a situation were utilization rates were high and much of vendors focus was turned toward retaining and attracting talent again”
Outsourcing slowed down and there were few really big deals in 2005, which leads us to believe that also 2006 will show more moderate growth, at least for IS Outsourcing. The current good market conditions for project services are however forecasted to continue throughout 2006 leading to a situation where lack of resources will be a problem in some areas.
Per-Arne Sandegren, IDC Senior Research Analyst says "The Finnish IT Services market growth came down to 3.9% in 2005, comparing to a 10% growth in 2004. The total value of the market was EUR 2318 million. Outsourcing showed the highest growth with 5.6%. For 2006 we forecast a higher growth of 5.1% in total still topped by outsourcing with 5.7%".

"In spite of high oil prices and the escalated conflict in the Middle East we remain optimistic about a stable IT investment growth scenario for the Nordic countries. Small adjustments have been made to the 2006 and 2008 growth rates for the Nordic countries, but overall IT growth will keep within a 5-6% band for this year and the following years", says Per Andersen, managing director of IDC Nordic.
PC Tracker Q2 2006 - Denmark, Finland, Norway, Sweden
Analyst: Anders Elbak
This IDC study analyses the development of the Nordic PC market in Q2 2006 and presents the forecast for the coming four quarters. The study provides vendors, distributors and resellers crucial information for benchmarking recent performance and short term planning and budgeting. "The market is clearly split between a strong consumer market and a much calmer commercial market. As interest rates rises and consumer confidence declines, the consumer market will start cooling down as well." Says Research Manager Anders Elbak.
